At the metro stop " Europe" in paris is a whole street corner of music shops. I really enjoyed it because in my area there is only one to look through. They have a whole section of flute sheet music and books.

How to get to Monet Gardens from Paris

Bonjour! I have included photos below. The first time I went to the gardens with my Mom we took the Fat Tire Bike tours. It was an excellent tour but this time it was raining so I decided to do it on my own. I looked up Rick Steves and took this directions. However, I find sometimes photo help more than words. This trip is July 2011 - so things can change. Let me know if this is helpful.
Go to the Gar St. Lazare station in Paris. You'll need to go up to the street level and go into the SNCF office to buy a ticket. Then go into the big station and look for the board - ask the clerk for a brochure with train times. You'll want the Rouen - bound train. When it flips up on the board go to that track. There will also be a listing there with the different stops for that train. Then validiate your tickets!!!!!!! And hop on!.
When they announce Vernon station get off and you'll see some signs. Go through the station and there are taxis, bikes to rent, or a shuttle bus. I took the shuttle bus because it had been a bit rainy. 4 euro round trip - be sure to keep your ticket. If you take a bike be sure to get a map so that you can find your way back through the town to the station. It's about a 10 min ride. When you get off the bus there is a quick side path to a bust of Monet off in the woods. Then follow people along a path to rue Claude Monet - then down to the house. They have his home studio set up inside and the gardens and pond well tended. It's beautiful. Also there are other galleries, cafes, B&Bs and hotels on this road. Be sure to remember how to get back to the bus. Turn in by the tourist office and cross the street to return by bus. Also take an hour to walk around Vernon. It's very French and not touristity. Train station at Vernon

Get off of the Train at Vernon. It's a cute town and worth walking around after the gardens. Be sure to check your train schedule for return trains to Paris. There is a place across from the station that you can rent bikes from and go to the gardens that way or take the shuttle bus. The bus is only 4 euros round trip - keep your ticket.

When you get off the bus pay attention to where you are. There is no one to lead you to the gardens. Just follow the path with a couple of signs. Actually on the way take a little detour to another path that is marked with Monet's bust. It's just off in the woods. These are the photos to the gardens. When you exit on to rue Claude Monet noticed the tourist office there. You'll find your way back to the bus stop that way. Keep your ticket so that you don't have to pay twice.

Bonjour! I think the question I am asked the most is "where to eat". So here it is. My fully tested dining schedule. Keep in mind - I prefer veggies. So keep an open mind and just pop in new places and try them out. That's really what I do.
1. Go to the Tuileries gardens and look for the open cafe's by the tree line. I just LOVE sitting out here looking at the flowers and having the plat du jour. http://bit.ly/nDGujr
2. Stop in for dessert at Jacques Genin chocolate place. I took a class with his kitchen when he just did wholesale (to 5 star hotels) now he is available to the public. It's worth just getting a hot chocolate at the cafe. I don't know his website but this is a link to a review http://bit.ly/ojkVw6
3. I found this place in the Marais area by Nortre Dame in Paris. They have loose tea too. Excellent quality. For a treat get tea and biscuits at their cafe. http://bit.ly/qjT3fB
4. La belle ronde = This is located Denfert Rochereau on Daguerre St. This is nice market street to get cheese, bread, wine =) all of life's necessities. http://bit.ly/p5TPba It's a creperie. They have sweet and salty so some are a desert and others a meal.
5. Montmartre Hill - this is the artist colony are and there are a couple of hidden cafes around the corner from where the artists set up Chez Plumeau. http://bit.ly/p560Mp I couldn't find a website for them. The atmosphere here is very nice and usually someone is set up playing music. It is a small menu so that means it's excellent.
6. Indian food. A friend of mine took me here once and it was great! I've been back many times as well. It's in the Latin Quarter - get there early for a table by the window. Safran http://bit.ly/mP10AS They will also tell you if something is going to be spicy. Excellent food
7. L' Ebouillante restaurant - amazing! Love this place. My friends found it and took me back their on our trip to Paris. It's on a cobblestone street and the soup of the day is DELIS ! http://bit.ly/n2h4au It's great for veggie lovers. It's very French so don't expect them to hover over you at dinner. Take your time and enjoy!
8. Last one! My favorite wine shop. He has a nice selection from around France. The owner is originally from Miami, FL. I found this as a recommendation from a friend. http://bit.ly/oBeFID

Bonjour! I have been doing quite a few senior sessions in June. We've been having lots of fun. It's so nice to go to the Eiffel Tower in the morning before the crowds.

Roller blading in Paris summer 2011

Bonjour! It was roller weekend here on Sunday. They said that Sunday was for beginners and families - well.. I am a good skater and I found it a little tough towards the end. There were hills and it was 3 hours. So you have to keep up the pace. I looked far and wide over the internet for information. So here it is: there are two skates. One on Friday night and one on Sunday afternoon. It says that on Friday night starting at 10pm is for the advanced. Take that seriously. Unless you can do tricks you probably shouldn't try it. The sunday one does have some kids and if you are good shape you can probably do an hour. However, I'm a good skater and I did finish the whole thing but .. I had help at the end. The staff surround you (close streets and are in front and behind) to keep it moving and they will assist you down hills (grab their shoulders) or help you over cobblestones - or try to pull you up hill! LOL. They were fanstastic. I didn't really get chance to tell them that. I needed all of the above listed help! I also suggest having a small back pack with water, a snack, and your shoes. That way you can drop out if it's too much and take the metro back. The place to meet for Sundays is at the Bastille metro stop - there is a place called Nomades that rents roller blades and pads its just down from Bastille on 37 Blvd Bourdon. +33 1 44 54 07 44 Actually you can hang out at the shop for the group to start. They head down that road. Just watch and join the crowd. It starts at 2:30. Get there early to get your skates and practice a bit. Have fun!! If you try this please leave a comment on my blog! Merci! I am looking for honest to goodness cool hip cute shoes that won't hurt my feet. Yes, I have looked at zappos....they carry granny narrow shoes.

I highly recommend that we at least do the day tour.... and the night one because it includes a boat ride at night. =)If you want to go to Monet gardens book it in advance otherwise we can just show up for this one.

There are a couple of hop on hop off tour buses. http://www.viator.com/Paris-tours/Hop-on-Hop-off-Tours/d479-g12-c97?pref=02&aid=g3254 I'd book this one in advance for Sunday because most of the shops in Paris are closed on Sundays. So that would be a good day to get an orientation and hit a couple of museums. Also you can get a museum pass at the tourist office, or online. Or you could just go buy a
ticket after 2pm.. and it's cheaper but less time in the museum.

If you want to go up the Eiffel Tower (you should on your first visit) you can also book that time in advance and not wait in the LONG line.

Professional photo equipment

Greetings!

I have been asked by clients "what kind of equipment do you use"? Professional photographers have many many tools and

techniques at their disposal. Everyone has an opinion! Mac or pc? Digital or Film? Nikon or Canon? Mamiya or Hasselblad? The truth is it does

not matter what your tool of choice is. It's the end result that counts. Digital has surpassed film in so many ways now. Film was great! However, just as the horse and buggy was replaced by the cars, trains and airplanes. It's time is simply over. Sure a few artists that prefer to print on their own in a darkroom but all professional labs scan film and use a digital printer for portraits.

So what do I use ? I have to add a smile here =) . I use the right equipment for each job. For beach and studio portraits I use a Nikon D700 pro. I also have a Canon D30 as a backup. My other back up cameras are a Mamiya and a Rangefinder. Won't my competition now find out what I use? Sure! That's fine. I consider it a great complement that other photographers look to my studio for information about how to do portraits.

A professional photograph

Bonjour! Do you know what to look for in a good photograph? What is good lighting and posing? What are the different styles of photography? There are as many methods for achieving a excellent image as there are photographers. I prefer to keep it simple and easy. Why? I like to make it as easy as possible for you. Holding a pose and smiling can be hard! In this blog post I am going to cover the first question. What to look for in a good portrait.

The background should be simple. There should be no horizon lines or items sticking out of the subjects head.

There should be "catch lights" in the eye at the 11am or 1pm position

A head and shoulders image should have a "vignette" (fading out) only on the part of the image where the body exits the photo. Why? By adding a vignette it draws the eye back into the photo. A vignette all the way does not serve the purpose of a vignette.

Is the subject very bright and the background dark? Too much flash. It can be done on purpose for the effect but for the most part this is called a "flash effect" and it's not flattering.

Flat, Split, and Rembrandt light. I have example on the "Why Choose Us" page. The next time you watch a TV show or a Hollywood movie check out the lighting on the actors faces. It's usually Rembrandt. Why? Because it's the most flattering lighting pattern and it adds dimension. It brings the image to life from just a flat piece of paper to a three dimensional image.

The best time of day to photograph a portrait session in any part of the world is sunrise and sunset. No exceptions. If a photographer wants to take you out at any other time be careful. It can be done but it takes great skill and a great location to pull it off.

Hawaiian cocktail: I'll have to think of a name..

Ingredients:

* Tea from the Hawaiian Islands Tea Co. I used the coconut macadamia herbal tropical nut tea.

* Fresh pineapple juice from the Dole Plantation (you can buy a gallon if you ask for it $7)

* Hana Bay Light rum

* Whaler's Dark

Instructions

This drink is still evolving..

Make some tea, then mix in pineapple juice, shake it with Hana Bay Light, pour over ice.

Then float a little Whaler's Dark on top!

I10 I'm on the road again!

Hey Everyone! I haven't had a chance to post anything here yet. I had a great drive on I10 on Christmas Day. The weather was perfect for smooth sailing. Not one drop or flake around. I buzzed right through San Antonio and Houston.. there was no traffic or construction. I even met a couple of guys at a tiny gas station.. who happened to be from Fl. they were leaving for jobs in California. Then I stopped off at Las Crucus NM. At the Double Eagle cafe I had a great lunch. Then straight to the beaches of San Diego.. even got a front parking space.

I was going to try to have my video ready to post but Joey has kept me busy taking photos at the drop zone. I'll have to wait till I get back.

Blue Eiffel Tower

Bonjour, It is our last night here. Mom had a great time. We did a bit of shopping today and had a nice lunch. Then this evening we went to a book reading at Shakesphere and Co. Its a bookshop by the river. Then we watched the light show on the Eiffel Tower for the grand finale. Right now the tower is blue because France is President of the EU for the next 6 months. I will post lots of pics and video when I get home.

It was raining but we did the Sound of Music tour. Mom had a blast. Its her favorite movie. Then We went to a flute/piano concert. And then a ...very modern..musical composition concert. Then we were going to go to Hallstatt but the company cancelled the tour so we headed back to Paris. More details later

Hop on hop off again! This time Mom got to see the original works by Monet at the Musee de Orsay. On the top floor they have a collection of them. She got to see the gardens, buy her favorite winter scene print and then see the originals. She is having a great time.

This evening I did another photo shoot of a family here in Paris. It started raining this evening so we just stayed in and packed for Salzburg.

Hop on Hop off!!

Well , I sent my Mom off riding around Paris today on her own!! She had a ride. The hop on hop off bus takes riders through all of the highlights of the city. And then you can hop off at places you want to spend more time at and then catch the next bus to keep going. Then she saw THE MONA LISA!!

I needed to go and check out more photo shoot opportunities....had lunch at The Gardens at the Lourve.

Then I took Mom on a dinner cruise. She has helped me so much this summer. I told her we would do something really neat. It was fablouous ! We had a window seat, champene and cruised down past the Garden of Plants. Then the boat headed back up river past the Eiffel tower (which sparkles blue right now) and then back to the apt.
Very posh ride :)

Monet Gardens

Bonjour!! We took the Big Fat Bike Tours ride to the Monet Gardens outside of Paris. The guides were fantastic !! Thank you Paul :) We picked up a picnic lunch and ate beside the river Seine :) The weather was perfect. Blue skies and zhite puffy clouds. Then we got our bikes and road the path to the gardens. The gardens were so thick and lush with flowers I was jealous. Thats what I really wanted for my yard. There were the water lilies and a boat with lots of bridges. Words could never do it justice. Then we headed back to the train station to return to Paris. It was time to rock and roll....we had some soft rain drops on the way back and some rock and roll. If you want the details you will have to ask me... to juicy for an email LOL

Bonjour Mom !! Welcome to Paris :)
Well for our first day we went to Notre Dame and walked along the river. I took her all around the Latin Quarter. We had an evening dinner at an Indian resturant. And we met a few fellow travelers. It was a mother and daughter from England visiting family in France. When you really sit down and talk to people it makes you realize that all of humanity is the same the world over. We have the same hopes and problems as everyone else. We speak different languages. But each country tries there best to solve them in their own way. We are first human then French, American, Irish, etc... Thank you Slyvann and Kristin for a wonderful evening !!

Scotland, The Fringe Festival

Good Day!! I went to Edinburgh Thursday afternoon to Sunday morning. The Fringe Festival was a blast. I toured the castle. And I must say that from the Elephant cafe that the castle looks just like Hogwarts :)

I went to the Gamarjabot show. Hilarious ! It was two Japanese dudes making fun of a US Western movie. Then I went to two photography show. The Vanity fair exhibition. There were old black and white photos of Claude Monet, Charlie Chapman and Amelia Earhart. Very cool. There was also another free exhibit of the International Press Corp of photographers at the Paraliment building.

I had a cup of tea at The Elephant cafe....thats where Harry Potter was born !!!!;)

There was also another comedy show that I went to late Sat night.

Tons of street performers....just lots of fun.

There is one ...but ....at the end of this comment. I suggest taking a train to Scotland. flying is a real hassel. I want to give an honest review of my travels. If anyone would like more details about the best way to travel by yourself around Europe. Send me an email. I would be happy to share.

Up on a hilltop

I went back to the hilltop this morning. I just love it up there ! I have been hanging out in the park. All of the parks here have free WiFi. That's a good thing to know. I am just taking a break and getting things ready to go to Scotland tomorrow. The Fringe festival is supposed to be just crazy. I can't wait.... its a step up from the Mullet Festival lol

Artist Colony on the hill in Paris

Bonjour ! It was a bit rainy today. Not too bad though. I went to the top of the hill in Paris. Montemartre (I will look up the spelling later). It is a place that the artists (writers, painters, photographers :) stayed for the cheap rent. It was the bohmein part. Very edgy and experimental. There is a great view of the city up here. You can see all over Paris. There is an open air market area for the painters (you can get your portrait painted) or buy an original work of art. There are cafes and parks. It's just wonderful.

Then I went over to another park called Monceau. It has Roman styled collums and a beautiful bridge. I think it would be great for portraits.

Then Lisa, her friend and nephew went out to eat at an Indian resturant in the Latin Quarter. This is the best part of Paris in the evening. Thank you Lisa I had a great time !

PS) I think I can add some photos to this blog now. I will attempt the videos either in the morning or on Sunday.

Gardens in Paris

Bonjour !! I had a wonderful day in Paris! I went to the flea market first at Pont Clignancourt. Its not just used stuff. There are lots of interesting art pieces, new and vintage clothes etc. It was started to rain though so I traveled on over to Pare des Butes Chaumont. What a beautiful garden. There is a overlook of the city and a lakeside garden for relaxing. But the clouds moved in again so I headed on over to Parc Manceau garden. It is a smaller garden but I think it is even more beautiful. In Manceau there are Roman structures surrounding by flower gardens and a circular path around the whole area for jogging. I finished the evening with Lisa. She choose a fablous Indian resturant.

The internet to my personal computer should be fixed tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed. If it is I will send out an email that the pics and video are ready.

Montmaetre Artist Market

Bonjour! It was a bit rainy and misty this morning in Paris. I was heading out to shoot early morning shots of the river but it was too rain for the camera. So I took the subway to Montmaetre. There were lots of artist booths set up. I took the little train tour that drove us all over the hilltop area. It was a great cloudy view of Paris. Then I had to check in with clients etc. I am off to go by the river to see what is happening this evening. I still need to work on getting my pics on the blog. I have a couple of videos ready to post. I will work on it when I get back.

Pont Alexandre Bridge, Paris France

Bonjour ! I spent the day scouting locations around the Pont Alexandre Bridge in Paris. It is very beautiful. It was decorated to commerate the peace accords between Russia and France. There are lots of photo shoots there and the view of the Eiffel Tower is beautiful. And just one bridge up the river, in an out of the way area, is a beautiful secret garden. Very romantic. I am going to take the engaged couple up there for their session.

The bridge down the river is where Princess Diana died. There is a flame there that was a thank you gift from the US to France for the Statue of Liberty.

Latin Quarter

Bonjour, The WiFi is down here at the apt. So hopefully this evening I will be able to get on the internet with my computers and upload pics and video! Yesterday I walked around the Latin Quarter. What a great place. The University is in this area so it is always very lively. I found a veggie resturant and a health food store. They also have open air markets here on Tues and Thur. I bought some veggies, cheese, and bread for a picnic by the river. I went over to DeVille Hotel's gardens, the Panethon, and the beach. LOL, I guess the beach just followed me. But today it
is back to work. I am off to the Embassy and the hotels to make some contacts.

Chocolate class Paris

Bonjour ! I had a bit of a problem uploading images the other day. I will hopefully get them up by this weekend. I have one video done... I just need to be able to get that computer on the internet to upload it. I had a blast at the chocolate class. I worked in the kitchen with the chef and got to taste test everything. Yumm Yumm. There is quite an art to preparing chocolate. Everything is done by hand including wrapping the individual chocolates. I also got a big box to take home with me. Well I still have two weeks here and if they make it home they will probably be in my tummy. But in case I have any left over I will share.

Paris take 3 !!

Bonjour from Paris! I arrived this morning and got my luggage [ thanks to the I love baggage handlers tag]. I think this time I picked the best place to stay. I am across the river from Notre Dame. There is a smoothie shop just up the road and lots of little parks. I have a great apt. There is a computer, small kitchen, phone and a nice size bathroom. I will also be posting video on my YouTube account each evening as well as posting here. And can you believe that this summer the mayor decide to set up a beach along the river for the locals...... I guess I will have to shoot some beach portaits in Paris LOL ..... must be a sign. I will put some pics here from today when I get them downloaded.

Space shuttle launched ! Go Atlantis !

The weather has cleared this morning so I can upload the space shuttle images.
At launch time NASA kept saying there were little showers popping up here and there. They can't launch if the weather is not favorable within a 20 miles radius of the pad. We all kept our fingers crossed. I kept blowing the clouds away =) And we were lucky! The shuttle launch was smooth and beautiful through white puffy clounds hanging over the coast. We all wish them a safe return !

Pics) The first pics are of the visitors center near the viewing area. I wish I had one of those 3k telephoto lens.. but alas I only have a portrait lens. There is one pic where it looks like the shuttle disappears into the cloud. I have to say... they had the fastest trip over the Atlantic I've ever heard of... I wonder if they get frequent flier miles.... =)

I just realized that I didn't post any pics from Vegas March 07. In these pics you'll see the little red airplane. That's my bro's airplane... her name is Ms. Red Headed Slut. Yep, well he is a former Vegas bartender and he said that's the name of a shot at the bar. We went flying a couple of times. I also took a quick side trip to Seattle, San Franciso, Napa/Sonoma Valley, and San Diego. I wanted to check out the west coast. Enjoy !
